2005 Adjudicators

Kurt Blaugher is Director of Theatre and Chair of Visual and Performing Arts at Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD. He has been involved in theatre since he was in second grade (otherwise known as “a VERY long time ago”), and has worked in a wide variety of positions in academic, professional, and community theatre. As an actor, he has appeared in plays as varied as Don Juan in Hell (Toledo Repertoire), The Robber Bridegroom and Our Town (Northwestern University ), and the Fantasticks and A Christmas Carol (Millbrook Playhouse, Loch Haven, PA). He has been directing since he was an undergraduate, producing plays ranging from What The Butler Saw to Cabaret to The Trojan Women to Twelfth Night.  He is presently at work on a production of Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses, to be performed at Mount Saint Mary’s in March.  He holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University ; his dissertation concerned the history of the twentieth century community theatre in the Toledo , Ohio area.  He is pleased and very honored to be a part of this festival.

Paul Donnelly has had two worksnominated for the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play, The taste of Fire (2003) and After My Own Heart (1986). His work has won the Source 10-Minutes Play Contest, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities’ Larry Neal Writers Award for Drama, and the Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Virginia Playwriting Prize. He has directed for Cherry Red Productions, the Source Washington Theatre Festival, Charter Theatre, Madcap Players and Trumpet Vine Theatre Company. Paul was pleased to serve as Playwright-in-Residence in 1996 and from 1998-2001 for the late lamented TheatreVirginia’s New Voices program, which gave high school playwrights and actors selected from across the state the opportunity to spend three weeks in Richmond taking classes from theatre professionals and collaborating with them to present workshop productions of student plays. Paul has also taught playwriting at the Writer’s Center in Bethesda , MD and St. Mary’s College of Maryland . He is currently on the faculty of Washington DC ’s Theatre Lab.

Jennifer Plants teaches acting and theatre history at Hood College and is the director of Hood College Theatre (HCT). Directing credits at Hood include Stop Kiss (the inaugural production of the Avalon Performing Arts Studio,) Performing History: Brown vs. Board of Education (an original work,) and this spring's HCT productions: The Bald Soprano & a staged reading of The Vagina Monologues. She holds an MFA in acting from the Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory, and recent local acting credits include Melissa in Necessary Targets (Olney Theatre Center/Potomac Theatre Project), Portia in Julius Caesar (Baltimore Shakespeare Festival) and Octavia in a staged reading of Antony & Cleopatra (The Shakespeare Project.)
